Our Mission, Goals, and
Philosophy:
The Orange Beach Fire & Rescue mission and goal
is to preserve life and property in our community. One of our goals is to
enhance the quality of life and serve the citizens we work for. Words that
describe our duty toward those in need of help are integrity,
professionalism, honesty, and caring for all the citizens and visitors in
our fair city. We will be successful in meeting our mission goals and
objectives by providing the City of Orange Beach with the best possible Fire
Prevention Program, Quality Public Education, Professional Fire Suppression,
and Emergency Medical Services that are second to none.
The fire service today is much different than in
the past. Many picture the fire department with the clatter of hoof beats
pulling steam powered fire engines to the call, a trusted Dalmatian along
side. Or some may also picture a lone firefighter, wearing only coat and
helmet, carrying a small child from a smoke filled window down a rustic
wooden ladder. These images are just a small part of the wonderful history
of the fire service. These images, though factual, are long since gone, but
remain entrenched in our firefighters as concepts. There is one
tradition, however, to which the fire service has never deviated. If you
call, we will come. We are proud to serve this coastal paradise with the
same unwavering pride as the firefighters of the past and at the same time
preparing our members to be the stewards of the future.
This young fire department was established in
1993 and has made many great strides through its young and great history
going back 40 years plus when our friends began the Orange Beach Volunteer
Fire Department. With the help of a supportive community and great city
government this fire department has flourished. Our City celebrated is 20th
birthday in 2006 so we still have a lot of growing to do. The fire
department has an aggressive 5 year capital plan that includes replacement
of older vehicles, building new stations on & off the island, and training
our people to be the best they can be. Our plan is to be proactive in
meeting the future needs of this paradise.
In 2005 we informally put in place a Career Development Program that will
assist our firefighters as the City grows. We will ensure that each employee
can see the requirements for promotion and he/she can make a decision early
in their career as to what areas of development, experience, and education
are needed to achieve their career goal.
I want to thank the City of Orange Beach elected officials, the City
Department heads & employees that make our job easier. We have come through
some tough times the last few years and it is because
of the professional employees that work in our wonderful city that has made
us stronger now than we were before. The men and women you will see here are
a wonderful team that works diligently to ensure your safety. They do, quite
literally, put themselves in harms way to protect you. Please feel free to
stop by and visit any one of our stations and get to know some of these fine
people. It is my privilege to work with and lead this great group of
firefighters.Forney
